Miley Cyrus is Learning ‘Street Fighting’ For ‘So Undercover’
9 11 2010
Last week we learned that for her new film “So Undercover,” Miley Cyrus will take on the part of “a tough, street-smart private eye hired by the FBI to go undercover in a college sorority.” And while that description is accurate — and sort of awesome — it also sells the role short.
As Cyrus explained to MTV News backstage at the 2010 Europe Music Awards, her character is a whole lot more than just a private eye.
“She’s basically this chick who grows up as a super tomboy, and she’s an FBI agent and gets thrown into a bunch of girls that she doesn’t understand because she’s been around her dad, who’s been in the FBI his whole life,” Cyrus told us in Madrid. “And basically, by having to go undercover and be someone that she’s not, she kind of finds the person she is, because she realizes she doesn’t have to carry the weight on her shoulder of what her dad was, and she can be her own person.”
And while there’s depth to the role, Cyrus is also the first to admit that there are plenty of other perks that came along with it, namely, access to a trainer who’s in the process of turning her into a badass street fighter, complete with an arsenal of moves that she’d probably love to unleash on a pesky paparazzo or two.
“I’ve been actually doing all kinds of stuff. … I’ve been doing fighting, like learning how to box … mostly like street fighting, so knowing how to, like, if someone comes up from behind you, being able to defend yourself,” she said. “I have a trainer and I have bruises everywhere from, like, kicking the bags. … And I’ve learned how to use guns, which was really scary,” Cyrus admitted. “I cried the first time, I was like, ‘I’m not doing this … can’t do this movie,’ [but] then you get used to it, you get used to the feeling. You get used to, like, dropping, like he’ll like point it at you and you’ve got to drop down real quick and grab your weapon and come back up. It’s been really insane, so, it’s a more fun workout than running on a treadmill.”
Production on “So Undercover” begins in December, which means that, between now and then, Cyrus is only going to get tougher and tougher — and that’s bad news for anyone who’s thinking of crossing her.
“I want to learn how to do most of my own stuff,” she smiled. “Just for normal life, I think every woman should know a little self-defense.”

Miley Cyrus Visits a UK Primary School
9 11 2010
Miley Cyrus amazed children at a primary school in Derby today when we arranged for her to make a surprise appearance at their school assembly.
The kids were awestruck when their head teacher brought the star of Disney’s Hannah Montana into the hall – but soon hands were flying into the air as they got the chance to ask questions: “What’s your favourite song?”, “How do you change into Hannah?”, “Are you real?”, “Do you have a boyfriend?” That last question brought lots of giggles around the school hall and the answer “No!”
Miley was in Derby for a signing session at the Asda store in Spondon – where hundreds of fans turned up to get a glimpse of their idol, whose clothing range is exclusive to George at Asda.
Before heading to the store Miley made a secret trip to Silverhill Primary School, where two of her biggest fans, 10-year-old Abbie Foster and 11-year-old Alysha Boudir, are pupils.
They had entered our George at Asda Facebook competition to find Miley’s biggest fan in the UK and had sent us photos of Miley T-shirts they had designed and made themselves.
Only head teacher Kate Nash knew that we’d arranged for Miley to come to the school and meet them in person – so it was a huge shock for everyone when the singer walked into the hall. There were gasps, a look of shock on everyone’s faces … then lots of questions.
Miley told the children: “This is just like my first school in Tennessee.” The main difference was their “cute” accents.
Asked how old she was, Miley said: “I’m 18 in two weeks’ time.” She confirmed she definitely is a “real girl” and revealed the secret of how she turns into Hannah … “magic”.
After lots more questions and singing a song with the kids, Miley had a private meeting in the staff room with Abbie and Alysha and their families. The girls were overcome with emotion and tears flowed as Miley chatted and signed their T-shirts.
The whole school cheered and waved her off before trying to return to normal. The head teacher said keeping the news a secret had been one of the toughest jobs she had – the last celebrity visit to the school was Rammie, the Derby County mascot!
Miley then headed off to greet the huge crowds at Asda Derby and meet the winner of our competition, nine-year-old Eve Newton, from Burley-in-Wharfedale.

Demi Lovato Being Treated @ Timberline Knolls
9 11 2010
She’s been staying under the radar ever since dropping off the Jonas Brothers European Tour, and now GossipCenter has exclusively learned that Demi Lovato is getting help at the Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center.
According to our exclusive source, the Lovato family spent the weekend with Demi, staying at a local hotel to be close to the ailing Disney darling during her time of need.
The Lovatos were spotted on Sunday (November 7) leaving their hotel and driving to the treatment center before heading off to the airport to fly back to Los Angeles.
Demi checked into Timberline Knolls, located just outside Chicago in Lemont, Illinois, directly after deciding she needed help for emotional and physical issues.
The center’s website boasts, “Nestled on 43 wooded acres, the Timberline Knolls campus has received recognition for its beauty from the American Institute of Landscape Architects. The tranquil grounds contain a lake and reflecting ponds, an historic art studio, comfortable contemporary residential facilities, and outdoor activity fields.”
And Melissa Rocchi, the Program Development Coordinator and Manager of Expressive Therapies, shared that many of the residents of Timberline Knolls are involved in a volunteer program to help them through their own struggles.
“Timberline Knolls residents really look forward to their time volunteering at the Franciscan Village, as well as the other places where we get involved, including the local animal shelter, nursing homes, children’s hospitals and veteran’s organizations. Residents from the Chicago area have even brought additional charitable organizations and causes to the attention of Timberline Knolls staff. Volunteer work is an important part of residential treatment because it reinforces the ability to connect with others. It also helps them realize that they are not the only ones who face lifelong challenges and need the assistance of others in this world to live a healthy and fulfilling life.”
As for Demi’s living conditions, former residents have reported that Timberline Knolls has a decent selection of food and activities available, and the center comes highly recommended and well-rated by clients and industry sources alike.
There’s still no word on how long Miss Lovato will be receiving care at Timberline Knolls, but stay linked to GossipCenter for all the latest details.

Demi Lovato’s Struggle w/ Self-Injury is Raising Awareness
9 11 2010
Angeline Jolie has admitted to it. Princess Diana shared her struggles with it. Courtney Love used to go so far as to do it on stage at her concerts. And most recently, Disney star Demi Lovato checked herself into a treatment facility for issues that include cutting.
But even with these high profile names, cutting is still something we have a low general awareness about.
It’s a phenomenon that is hard to explain, and even harder to understand. The idea of inflicting self-injury on oneself in an attempt to feel better just doesn’t add up. But cutting is a reality for more than these big name stars. It is a trend that is becoming more prevalent in young women.
First of all, it is important to realize that cutting is not a suicidal gesture. Instead, it is a coping mechanism — albeit, a self-destructive one — for negative feelings about oneself, stress and anxiety. The behavior usually begins in adolescence, and if untreated or left unaddressed, will likely continue into adulthood. Parents and others are wrong to assume that a girl will simply grow out of it when she gets older.Nine out of 10 girls who try cutting don’t adopt the behavior. But for those who do, it can reinforce and even exacerbate their current emotional problems.
For some, cutting allows them to feel as if they are regaining control over some aspect of their lives, and for others, it is a way to cope with the internal struggles they are facing. The act of cutting is their outlet from the pain and allows for an escape, even if only temporary. Because the relief felt is only temporary, repeated cuts are necessary for continued relief. As time goes on, cutting can become habit-forming — not an addiction, per se, but a compulsive behavior one uses to cope with personally overwhelming situations, like bullying, a breakup or even failing a school test.
Medical Health America and Discovery Health report that over the past decade 1 percent, or over 2 million, people have cut themselves or inflicted self-injury. Further data suggests that 1 in every 200 girls ages 13 to 19 has cut themselves.
While each story is different, the triggers are often the same: overwhelming pressure from parents, rejection from a social group, domestic abuse, relationship breakup or anything that fills the person up with intolerable feelings.
Take Demi Lovato for example. The 18-year-old has openly discussed the pain she endured during middle school as a victim of bullying. For her, bullying was the catalyst that led to both an eating disorder and cutting.
