Miley Cyrus wowed in her Roberto Cavalli gown at the 2011 VMA on Aug. 28. Selena Gomez dressed to impress as well, but one cannot help but notice the switch of classy versus showy at the award show Sunday night.
Cyrus hit the white carpet in a floor length gown that featured a combination of patterns including floral Japanese prints and tiger stripes. The dress was completely covered in front, fitted around the waist, and back-less.
The 18 year-old singer looked elegant in silver jewels and a classy updo. Although the dress was not a hit across the board, many have been complementing Cyrus for her sophisticated and graceful look.

Miley Cyrus’ VMA fashion: First dress she tried on at fittings
Miley Cyrus walked by on the VMA Awards red carpet on Sunday night and everyone thought she might have gone to the wrong award show. The entertainer found what she thought was a perfect dress for the evening and she knew it might have been too much, especially for the wild costume type outfits of the VMA.
However it was the first dress she tried on and since she loved it so much, she decided to go with it. ”I didn’t know if it was too like fancy-dancy for the VMA’s but it is all about being as wild as you want to be,” said Miley Cyrus. “It is Cavalli. It is the only thing I have done in my life where I have tried on one dress and I was done.”
The entertainer looked like she was on her way to the Oscars as she strolled by the sea of photographers.Giving the best of the moment, she was classy and stylish, while her entertainer pals were all wearing jean or tight miniskirts. If she looks this stunning for the VMA awards, everyone will be begging the Emmy’s and Oscars to invite Miley Cyrus to see what she wears there as it is only bound to be more gorgeous at the bigger award shows.
Miley Cyrus Sports Backless Gown at 2011 VMAs
Miley Cyrus showed off her bohemian style in a long, flowy printed down at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. The 18-year-old singer stepped out on the red carpet in LA on Sunday evening, and topped off the ensemble with a number of accessories. Adding a bit of fun to the look, she had a little something fun going on in the back! Miley showed off the backless dress as the paps snapped away. Way to mix it up! We like.
MTV VMAs 2011: mixed reviews on Miley Cyrus’ dress
On Sunday, Miley Cyrus made an appearance at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. She appeared at the pre-show black carpet event, and again on stage with Shaun White to present the VMA for Best Rock Video. While Miley looked lovely and elegant, I wasn’t completely sold on that dress.
From the back and the side, she looked stunning. Cyrus’s hair, face, and make-up looked great. I liked the back of her dress. The open back combined with the floor-length gown really gave her a more mature, elegant look. I also liked the way the dress draped at the bottom. But from the front, it didn’t quite mesh.
The dress seemed a little too busy with the different patterns and floral designs. And the material seemed a little clingy and uncomfortable. I would have liked the dress better if it had had one focal point instead of so many patterns. Still, I have to give her props for attempting a more mature, sophisticated look.
