Read on for the singer’s get-confident tips and feel-great beauty advice.

How did you get involved with Acuvue 1-Day?
I heard that they were doing this incredible contest with teenagers, trying to help them achieve their dreams. I’m just such a firm believer in going after what you believe in, so I definitely wanted to be a part of it.

How did you envision your future when you were a young teen?
I always knew that I wanted to be in the spotlight as a musician or actress. I knew that this is what I wanted to do.

Who was your inspiration back then?
I really looked up to Shirley Temple and I thought that if she’s a superstar at five years old, I can do it, too! I’ve also really admired everyone from Kelly Clarkson to Christina Aguilera to Whitney Houston.

What does it mean to you to be a mentor?
It’s somebody who listens to the person that they’re mentoring and really tries to help them. They have to have faith in that person.

Looking back, what advice would you give your younger self?
Just be patient and enjoy the time you have as a normal kid!

What are your everyday beauty essentials?
I always have an extra pair of contacts in my purse. I’m literally blind without them. I can’t drive, I can’t do anything. And then I also keep a lip balm, a concealer, and some lip stains in there.

Do you have any behind-the-scenes beauty secrets you’ve picked up over the years?
Wash off your makeup every single day and it’s really important to have a go-to skincare routine. It’s the most important thing you can do for your skin.
