Demi Lovato: ‘My fans helped me beat my eating disorder’

30 05 2013

the 20-year-old star opened up about her troubles to Scott Mills in an interview on Radio One yesterday, admitting that she has struggled at times during her recovery since going into rehab in 2010.

“My fans have helped me in many ways,” she said on air.

“One, because whenever I have struggled and thought about going back to bad habits like anyone does that struggles with an eating disorder, there’s been times when I have contemplated what am I really doing.”

“Do I really have a problem and then I think to myself yeah my fans are holding me accountable and I have to stay strong for them,’ she added.

The X Factor USA judge – who looked cute in a black skirt and leather jacket – was greeted by a crowd of fans who congregated outside the central London offices.

Taking the time to greet her fans, the star was in great spirits as she chatted away to some of them – signing merchandise as she went along.

“I’ve been honest about the things that I’ve been through and because of that a lot of people have learnt from my mistakes and the things that I’ve been open about,” she also said during her interview.

“I think that’s been what’s brought me and my fans closer together.”

She went on to offer advice to those who may be experiencing similar issues and gave a hopeful outlook for her fans, after suffering from a disorder in the past and visiting rehab in 2011.

“To the people out there who don’t know what to do or where to go. The first step in getting help is just admitting that you have a problem and then telling them about it,” she advised.

“Reach out to someone whether it’s a friend or a family member just somebody who can help you get better and that’s the most important thing. If you feel like you’re in danger then you have to tell someone immediately.”
