  • Miley Cyrus Takes NYC

Tonight on ET Canada, Roz catches up with Miley Cyrus in New York to dish on her new album, her newfound drive and of course, the haters!

Not afraid to speak her mind, Miley 2.0, doesn’t back down to anyone! Especially now that she’s in control of everything — from her new album, to her sexy new image! “Once I left my show I didn’t want anyone around to tell me the way that I was going to do things. I wanted to like go, make mistakes, go be who I was going to be,” she tells Roz. “Have no one that I have to answer yes or no to and I can make my record and say ‘this is what I’ve made, who wants to be a part of this?”

But what exactly keeps her motivated these days? Miley seems to have it all — fame, love and money! ”The motivation is MORE MONEY! Just kidding! Just kidding,” she jokes.

“If you don’t like me, it’s just the fact that I know the reason you hate me is because jealousy eats people from the inside out! People that are jealous and hate on me…that makes me want to work even better because they can’t take that away from me.” Oh, and let’s not forget to mention the gold hardware she’s eyeing! “I’m trying to win a grammy!”

And how does she feel about Cory Monteith’s sudden death? While messages of support and love are still filling Twitter feeds, Miley told Roz that she’s a little skeptical of the all that celebrity support. “People so quickly go and trend things on twitter but they don’t push the button that’s really helping,” she says, urging people to get up and make a real difference.

  • Miley Cyrus busy making music, having fun

Miley Cyrus says she literally can’t stop.

The former Hannah Montana star, now 20, says her new single We Can’t Stop perfectly sets the stage for her forthcoming fall album and 2014 tour.

“People don’t realize actually how pun-ny it is when I’m doing things,” Cyrus says in a Manhattan hotel room.

“They’re like, ‘It really feels like you can’t stop.’ ‘It is!’ … What is making my (new) record consistent is the fact that (the songs are) all different and that’s where I am. I’m at a point where it’s like I know who I am, but I’m know that I’m not finished figuring that out and I won’t finished be until I’m in the dirt.”

As for the accompanying We Can’t Stop video, which so far has 75 million YouTube hits, Cyrus, sporting short blonde hair, thinks she knows why it’s made such an impression.

“People are watching like, ‘Cute cat plays with yarn,’ for three hours a lot more than they’re watching anyone else’s music video. And it’s because it makes them happy, it makes them laugh, whatever,” says Cyrus, who’s engaged to actor Liam Hemsworth (and wearing her ring on this day).

“So I wanted my video to make people laugh ‘cause I’m the first one to make jokes at myself. My godmother is Dolly Parton who is constantly making fun of herself. She’s like, ‘It takes a lot of money to look this cheap, honey.’ … I wanted the video to be that kind of confident.”

And Cyrus, in head-to-toe black save for some gold vintage Chanel gun-shaped earrings, loves her fashion. Wearing a Phillip Lum leather halter, pearl-lined Moschino shorts, and Versace platform boots, she adds, “I’m good in heels. I’m balanced. Always been.”

Her short ‘do – which seemed to signal the beginning of this new phase in her life – speaks to that.

“No one would have planned a haircut to change my life,” Cyrus says. “I didn’t plan a haircut to change my life. I just cut my hair and then it really changed my lfe. There’s something about having no hair that it screams being confident. And I think especially because people like to put people in a box, I mean the names I’ve been called since I cut my hair.

“Everyone said I was a lesbian but I’m like, ‘Being a lesbian isn’t a bad thing. So if you think I look like I’m a lesbian, I’m not offended. You can call me much worse.’ I’ve been called much worse. Being a lesbian is a compliment more than what else they call me.”

Cyrus is on a roll now.

“People think short hair, they think tom boy … and I’ve obviously done the opposite ‘cause when I cut my hair, I did my first Maxim cover where I got No. 1 (in their annual hot list). And it wasn’t about me being the sexiest. It was about the fans voting. But it’s something I loved. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Maxim cover with a girl with short hair.”
